New College Society London Dinner

The New College Society President, Charles Williams (1981), warmly invites New College Old Members to the New College Society London Dinner on Friday, 6 March 2026 at Merchant Taylors’ Hall, 30 Threadneedle Street, London EC2R 8JB.

Merchant Taylors’, one of the City’s Great Twelve Livery companies, was established in the 14th century and has been on the same site on Threadneedle Street since 1347. Its purpose today is supporting a range of charities as well as operating social housing and schools.

The evening will start with a drinks reception at 6.30pm and dinner will commence at 7.15pm in the Great Hall. After dinner, you will be able to continue conversations in the covered Cloisters where a bar will be available until midnight. A New College jazz band will be playing during the reception and after dinner.

The Society wishes this dinner to recognise the forthcoming retirement of our current Warden, Miles Young (1973), at the end of the academic year. The Warden-elect, Sir Robin Niblett (1980), will also be attending. Given the occasion, the Committee wishes to ensure that the tickets are priced attractively for Old Members. It has therefore been decided that the Society will cover the significant fixed costs of the event. In addition, a further subsidy of £35 per ticket is being offered to younger Old Members who matriculated since 2014, so were students during Miles’ tenure as Warden. Accordingly, a full-price ticket to cover the drinks reception and a three-course dinner with wine will cost £135 and the discounted ticket will be £100.

We fully expect this to be a truly memorable evening which will bring together, in wonderful surroundings, alumni of New College from across the generations to celebrate the community within which we all belong. Please do reach out to your friends to get a group of contemporaries together as part of a table.

The suggested dress code is Black Tie and the dinner is for New College Old Members only without guests.
