‘Vinegar Bible’ Adoration of the Magi—New College Christmas card available for purchase
Our 2025 New College Christmas card is illustrated with a fine engraving by Frenchman Charles Dupuis of a splendid work of art by his compatriot Louis Laguerre that depicts the Adoration of the Magi. It is one of the famous illustrations within John Baskett’s spectacular 1716–17 printing of the King James Version of the Bible, published by Oxford’s Clarendon Press—the so-called ‘Vinegar Bible’—and it comes at the opening of the Gospel of St Matthew.
