BOOKING DETAILS

Please read ALL information below and ensure you select the correct number of tickets required for each element. 

Please complete the gown hire order form, lunch booking form and the payment form here once you have made your choices. 

Please make your selections by the closing date of Friday 7 February 2025.

 

GOWNS AND HOODS

  • Sub fusc / academic dress must be worn.
  • The relevant gowns can be hired from New College; please order using the online link above.
  • FOR DOCTORAL DEGREES ONLY: If you are a DPhil graduand, please let me know the following information BEFORE  you make your order by emailing Felicity Reeves (student.services@new.ox.ac.uk):
    1.    Your previous degree
    2.    Where it was taken, i.e. Oxford or another University
    ..as this will determine whether you need to hire 1 or 2 gowns…
  • ALL OTHER GRADUANDS: you will wear the gown of the degree for which you are graduating into the ceremony, with the hood added mid-ceremony. You will only need to hire 1 gown and hood.
  • College gowns such as Scholars and Commoners gowns are NOT worn to the ceremony.  There are specific BA, Undergraduate Masters, MSt, MSc gowns, etc. that we will hire for you. 
  • If you have your own mortar board, you do not need to borrow one from College.
  • If you have your own gown(s) and hood(s) relevant to the conferment of your degree, just the gowning fee will be payable.
  • If you have your own gown relevant to the conferment of your degree, but not the hood, we can hire the hood for you.

TIMINGS

8.00-9.00 - Candidates should arrive at Holywell Lodge, New College for gowning
9.15 - The Dean of Arts will explain the degree ceremony procedure
9.45 - Doors to the Sheldonian Theatre open to the public 
10.30 - The degree ceremony takes place in the Sheldonian
12.00 – Photographs will be taken in College grounds
12.30 - Lunch (optional) will be served from 12:30 onwards (venue to be confirmed)
 

GOWN HIRE ORDER:

Please make your gown hire order using the gown hire order form at the top of the page.

 

CEREMONY & LUNCH TICKETS

You are entitled to up to 2 guest tickets for the Sheldonian ceremonies. Please order above.

A College lunch will be served after the ceremony for graduates and up to 3 guests from 12:30. There will be a charge of £40 per guest (no charge for graduate). Please order above, using the lunch booking form above. 

Collect your tickets from the Lodge on your arrival in College for your guests (who should proceed to the Sheldonian, whilst you complete formalities in College).

 

BOOKING YOUR TICKETS AND PAYMENT

Please order your ceremony tickets, purchase your lunch tickets (if required) and pay for your gown hire online via the New College Store payment form at the top of the page.

ABOUT THE DAY

PHOTOGRAPHS

Our photographer (First Degree Photography) will be available in College. Photos can be ordered online after the event.  There will not be any University photographers at the Sheldonian.

BROCHURE

The degree day brochure is provided to all guests on arrival at the ceremony.  Please contact student.services@new.ox.ac.uk if you do NOT consent to your name being published in the degree day brochure. 

DEGREE CERTIFICATES

Degree Certificates will usually be available to collect from College on the degree day for those graduating in person.

The College is very interested in the continuing careers of its members. We should very much appreciate you completing the Development Office keeping in touch form, stating any qualifications achieved after leaving New College, and your present career.
