Sir Bernard Rix marks Holocaust Memorial Day with a talk at New College

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, Sir Bernard Rix, New College Old Member and former Lord Justice of Appeal, gave a powerful talk to members of the College community last Saturday. Sir Bernard addressed the diverse crowd of students, staff and Old Members in New College’s Long Room before audience members were invited to ask questions and share experiences.

About the speaker

Sir Bernard Rix is an Honorary Fellow of New College, having studied Literae Humaniores and Law at the College. He retired as Lord Justice of Appeal in 2013 after 20 years in the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal. He is an arbitrator and mediator and has been appointed to the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal. He is Professor of International Commercial Law at The Centre of Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary, University of London, where he is also an Honorary Fellow. He is a Trustee of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, President of Harvard Law School Association of the UK and Director of London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sir Bernard has been vice-president of the British Friends of Bar Ilan University since 1999, and was a member of the board of trustees of Bar Ilan University from 1988 to 1999 and vice-chairman of the Central Council for Jewish Community Services from 1993 to 1996.
