Opera in Conversation series

Oxford Contemporary Opera is currently running Opera in Conversation - a series of virtual talks with influential figures in modern opera.

Guests speakers in the series include the Pulitzer prize winning composer Anthony Davis, international director Barrie Kosky, Master of the Queen's Music Judith Weir, Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House Oliver Mears, as well as a surprise panel at the end of term.

All talks take place over Zoom and are livestreamed on the Oxford Contemporary Opera website (and available to watch afterwards). Each talk includes a Q&A at the end, where audience members can submit questions to be asked via a Google Form on the website.

Oxford Contemporary Opera

The society was co-founded by current MSt student in Musicology Zerlina Vulliamy, who currently serves as its President.

Oxford Contemporary Opera's purpose is below, taken from their website:

"Oxford Contemporary Opera was founded by Zerlina Vulliamy, Sam Padfield and Priya Radhakrishnan in 2018 with the aim of giving students a platform to perform, write, direct and produce opera. We believe that modern opera is limitless and has the potential to explore everything and anything, tackling issues whilst also providing entertainment. We also wanted to introduce the Oxford community to new forms of opera, making opera more accessible and we’re happy to say our audiences always range from opera lovers to opera novices."
