New Men Christmas Charity Concert

The New Men, a close harmony group made up of the choral scholars of the college choir, put on a charity concert on Saturday at lunchtime for members of the college and the public. The programme consisted of many Christmas favourites that are enjoyed by all, particularly at the annual Christmas concert for college members in the cloisters at the end of Michaelmas, and notably included an arrangement of ‘Winter Wonderland’ specifically for the New Men by Tom Burkill, a 3rd year music student at New College. With the success of this annual concert, the New Men decided to expand their offer towards the general public proposing a concert, outside of term-time, while the choral scholars were still in Oxford due to commitments with the College Choir.

This new format was a resounding success. With a sizeable and enthusiastic audience in attendance, the New Men presented a similar Christmas programme of favourites, both old and new, raising almost £300 for Homeless Oxfordshire, the chosen charity.

The group is excited to explore similar opportunities in the future, on top of their usual schedule of choir and college events.
