The New College Salon meets for its Hilary Term event

The New College Salon enjoyed its termly meeting at the weekend. Hilary term brought with it a certain dark academic calm, all amber light and curious conversation.

The speakers at Sunday's Salon brought with them a diverse range of topics for rumination and discussion:

John 'Christoph' Allin spoken on the Empire before and after modernity, drawing on the Holy Roman Empire and the Westphalian state after 1648. 'Farming the future' was Quifan 'Calvin' Zhang's area of interest, as he considered how drones, unmanned harvesters, drip irrigation and other new agricultural technologies are reshaping traditional agricultural social forms in Southern Africa. Finally, the evening concluded with Molly Drake's research on Judean Pillar Figurines, particular humanoid female figurines from ancient Judah (8th-6th centuries BCE).

The New College Salon is a relaxed and convivial space for MCR members to share their research, curiosities, and passions in an informal setting. The event takes place in the Warden's Lodgings.
