Continuing our support of Thinking Black

We are delighted to announce that we will be continuing our support of Thinking Black for the next academic year. 

New College funds the organisation's Year 10 Creative Writing Prize, which invites Black British, state-school students to read, discuss and enjoy Black writers, give critical responses and produce original works. 

The prize involves a number of session: 

• analysis of set texts
• tutorials at Oxford University
• thematic and technical writing exercises
• writing style development
• class discussions

Students produce a short piece of poetry, prose or script writing for submission. Last year, the Warden also funded a print publication of some of the best pieces.

Thinking Black aims to engage, equip and empower a new generation of young Black voices through modern educational programmes that enable student responses to diverse curricula.
