Christopher Vogel wins UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship

Congratulations to Christopher Vogel, New College's W W Spooner JRF in Engineering, who has been awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship.

The UK Research & Innovation scheme seeks to help develop the next wave of world-class research and innovation leaders in academia and business, providing significant financial funding for research.

Christopher's research focuses on offshore renewable energy - an essential element in the UK's net-zero emissions targets.

"My research focuses on offshore renewable energy - wind and tidal stream energy systems - looking at the fluid dynamics of large farms of turbines and how the turbines affect each other. I'm also interested in how the distribution of wind farms around the country affects the overall reliability of wind energy to the electricity network, particularly during prolonged periods of low wind speeds.

The UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship will allow me to build on this work, with a particular focus looking towards how the expansion of offshore renewable energy can contribute to a resilient energy system to meet the 2050 net-zero targets."
