New College Society Garden Party - Saturday 24 June 2023
The New College Society is pleased to welcome you to a Garden Party and BBQ on Saturday 24 June 2023. This will be our first garden party in five years since the pandemic, and giving way to a New College Commemoration Ball last year, so we very much hope that you will use this as an opportunity to catch up with old friends and contemporaries and enjoy an afternoon in the grounds of New College.
The event is open to all Old Members and their family and friends and involves the programme below:
11:00am - 1.00pm: Light and Shade: Paintings by James Gemmill. We encourage you to start your day with a visit to an art exhibition called Light and Shade by James Gamill. His paintings are inspired by New College and other Oxford colleges and will be available to view in the Antechapel. James is an Oxfordshire painter and film artist, with accolades such as the recreation of the Louvre paintings for the film The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons.
12:30pm - 1.15pm: Drinks served in the College Garden
1.00pm - 2.30pm: BBQ Buffet lunch
2.00pm - 5.00pm: Throughout the afternoon there will be entertainment for children including a bouncy castle, treasure hunt, face painting and a selection of games.
4.00pm - 5.00pm: Tea served in Hall (or if nice weather on the grass by the Mound).
5.45pm-6.45pm: Festival Evensong with the first performance of a new commission by James MacMillan, ‘When One Man Dies’ which will include a setting of a text from John Donne (1572-1631), Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, 1624. The occasion will also mark the launch of the choir’s new CD New College: Commissions & Premieres (Linn Records). Composers include Drayton, Harris, Harrison, Howells, Leighton, Pritchard & Young. This element of the day is being organised by our Chapel team but if you wish to attend, there will be an opportunity to express your intention to attend via the online booking form.
