New College Wins Mooting Competition

Last week, New College won the University of Oxford Maitland Chambers Inter-Collegiate mooting competition! Huge congratulations to the College team of Bethany Arrowsmith and Ruth Flame on this phenomenal achievement!

The moot problem concerned an appeal to the Supreme Court in a possible case of medical negligence, specifically, the limits of a doctor’s duty to obtain informed consent and medical loss of chance. After making submissions on their interpretation of the case law and wider policy arguments, as well as successfully navigating challenging judicial intervention throughout, New College were crowned triumphant by the judges; Christopher Parker QC, Nicholas Peacock QC and Gregory Banner QC of Maitland Chambers.

Bethany and Ruth said, "We are grateful for the opportunity to have represented New College and practise our advocacy, and thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition."

Congratulations again to our winners!
