New College JCR volunteers help create new pond for local primary school

This weekend, volunteers from New College JCR helped to create a pond at Wood Farm Primary School in collaboration with local charity, Earth Watch Europe.

New College has had a formal partnership with Wood Farm Primary School for two years. The partnership has been facilitated by Oxford Hub, a local charity which has created volunteering programmes and community projects across Oxford. Previous projects have included trips to New College, loaning gowns for a university taster day, providing equipment for the school's nativity play and giving school assemblies. More recently, Sam Cruickshank, our Executive Head Chef, helped pupils to design their own menus.

In addition, we can call upon our crack team of JCR members who regularly volunteer at the school (each term, they visit pupils to improve their reading skills). However, our JCR volunteers visited the school on Saturday to work on a very different project - to help create a new pond.

The project, organised by Earth Watch Europe, is part of the their 'Green Earth School' scheme. This aims to create nature features for school grounds to support outdoor learning. We look forward to seeing the finished result.
