New College student wins BPP’s Advocate of the Year Competition

New College Law student Ruth Flame was crowned the overall winner of the BPP's Advocate of the Year Competition earlier this year.

After winning the Midlands & South West Regional Heats, Ruth Flame (New College) and Athena Kam (Pembroke College) were two of only sixteen competitors who qualified for the Grand Final of the competition.

For the final round, competitors had to prepare two mock trials: a civil trial concerning a breach of contract, and a criminal trial concerning a charge under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. Faculty members from BPP University judged the competitors on their ability to conduct client conferences, examine and cross-examine witnesses, and present legal arguments.

Ruth Flame was crowned the overall winner of the competition and was awarded a £5,000 scholarship to complete the Bar Training Course with BPP in 2022.

Congratulations to Ruth!
