New College Notes—issue 20 now published

The twentieth issue of New College, Oxford’s scholarly open-access e-journal New College Notes (ISSN 2517–6935) is now published.

 

This latest issue includes articles on: New College’s infamous manuscript copy (c. 1450–70) of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales; a map of the world that appears prior to our MS 274’s copy of the first nineteen books of Pliny the Elder’s Natural History; a tale of two Iliads—Trinity College Library, Dublin MS 922 and New College Library, Oxford MS 298; and a tale of two books—our library’s copies of José de Acosta’s The Naturall and Morall Historie of the East and West Indies (1604). Contributors include: Lucy Fleming, Alfred Hiatt, Mateu Portells Watson, and Will Shire.

 

New College Notes is dedicated to research articles and learned notes on the history and life of New College, and especially the contents and history of the rich collections of New College Library & Archives, Oxford.  Potential contributors are invited to contact the Librarian.
