New Chamber Opera performance

On Friday 9th July 2021, New College Old Members and friends returned to enjoy a performance of La Diavolessa (The She Devil) by Baldassare Galuppi, given by the New Chamber Opera in the Warden’s garden.

The event was one of our first since lockdown and the subsequent relaxing of some restrictions (though social distancing was still in place). Attendees enjoyed an interval picnic in the Cloisters before the performance.

One Old Member, said: “…There was a moment in the second half, after a delightful picnic dinner in the Cloisters, when a bird seemed to be competing with the Countess Nastri, and the surrounding walls exuded a warm light. Sat in the company of friends at that moment, listening to live music beautifully performed in the intimate surrounding of the Warden’s Garden, after a year that has been so difficult for so many, I was suddenly suffused by a feeling of pure joy…”.
