From land allotments to public office, in a Greek polis a surprising number of fundamental procedures and decisions were randomized with the use of lottery. This peculiar habit opens up intriguing lines of thought on Greek mentality in matters religious and political. The lecture will present the evidence and discuss its possible implications.
The Speaker
Delivering the lecture will be Professor Irad Malkin, the Cummings Chair for Mediterranean History at Tel Aviv University, and an Israel Prize Laureate.
