The New College Society warmly invites New College Old Members to a London Lecture to be given this year by Professor Sir Dieter Helm, CBE, Fellow in Economics at New College, and Professor of Economic Policy at the University of Oxford. It will be held at the London School of Economics in their Wolfson Theatre, a tiered lecture theatre, on the lower ground floor of the New Academic Building on Sardinia Street, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, WC2A 3LJ (map), on Wednesday 8 May 2024. There will be a drinks and canapés reception at 6.00pm followed by a talk at 7.00pm which will last approximately one hour including time for Q&A.

What would the sustainable economy look like? What would it take to live within our environmental means? These are questions posed by Sir Dieter Helm, Professor of Economic Policy at New College, in his book: Legacy: How to Build the Sustainable Economy. During the talk, Professor Helm will explain more about the key features of different types of capital (human-derived and natural), why polluters should pay, and why the next generation should receive properly maintained natural and other assets from the current generation. There will also be an opportunity to put your questions to him on the environment, sustainability, and climate change matters.
