New College Choir sing Evensong in memory of Sir David Lumsden, former Organist of New College

New College Chapel was full on Saturday for a special Evensong to celebrate the memory of Sir David Lumsden, Organist of New College, 1959-1976, who went on to a distinguished role as principal of the Royal Academy of Music.

His family and many members of the choir association gathered to honour his enormous contribution to New College Choir, in particularly a new focus on recording.

Robert Quinney chose music to reflect his time in New College, including Byrd’s Great Service, recorded by Sir David in 1976, and Faire is the heaven by William Harris, Organist of New College, 1919-1929.
