Oboe Masterclass with Olivier Stankiewicz

Described as “pretty sensational” by The Times and “peerless” by The Arts Desk, Olivier Stankiewicz has been principal oboe of the London Symphony Orchestra since 2015. Artist in residence at Wigmore Hall for the 2024–2025 season, he is in demand worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, performing across Europe, Japan, and the United States, and curating concerts with artists such as Lucy Crowe, Thomas Dunford, Alasdair Beatson, and Liza Ferschtman. As a soloist, he has appeared with ensembles including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Orchestre National de France, collaborating with conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Tugan Sokhiev, Jaime Martín, and François-Xavier Roth. Deeply committed to contemporary music, he has premièred multiple concertos and commissioned numerous solo works, and has also appeared as a soloist with Ronnie Scott’s big band.

A dedicated chamber musician, Stankiewicz has given recitals at leading venues including Wigmore Hall, the Morgan Library, the Auditorium du Louvre, and Toppan Hall, and has performed at festivals such as Snape Maltings, Delft Chamber Music Festival, and Musikdorf Ernen. His recordings - praised by BBC Music Magazine, Gramophone, and Radio France Musique - include the complete Zelenka Trio Sonatas, Mozart’s Oboe Concerto with the LSO, and the world premiere recording of Bruce Broughton’s Oboe Concerto, also with the LSO. Born in Nice in 1989, he studied in Paris with David Walter and Jacques Tys, won the 10th International Oboe Competition of Japan, and is Professor of Oboe at the Royal College of Music in London.

This event is supported by the Carmichael Fund.

All are welcome to attend as observers.
