Old Member elected a Fellow of the Royal Society

New College Old Member M. Stanley Whittingham has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society - the world's oldest scientific academy.

Stanley studied at New College for both his undergraduate degree and DPhil, and was made an Honorary Fellow in 2019. He won the 2019 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his pioneering research leading to the development of lithium-ion batteries.

“I am honoured to be recognized beside so many outstanding researchers,” said Whittingham. “The work being conducted by this group of scientists is important and touches a diverse array of fields, and I thank the Royal Society for helping to raise the profile of my research and that of my colleagues.”
