‘Stay & Study’ — providing afternoon study space in the Library

When is the ‘Stay & Study’ service available?

  • Access to study space will be provided in two sessions of two hours’ duration: 1.00 till 3.00 pm, and 3.30 till 5.30 pm, Mondays to Fridays.

How does the service operate?

  • Seats must be booked in advance via our online booking system:

  • Arrive at the Library for the start of your booked ‘Stay & Study’ session (or during the course of its first hour).
  • Readers should queue to enter the Library, if required, from the New Buildings’ side.  Please use the hand-sanitiser dispenser available outside the Library before entering the building.
  • Depending upon the weather, you may find the front doors to the Library kept open for the first ‘Stay & Study’ session and the first hour of the second session (i.e. 3.30 till 4.30 pm) to minimise surface contact.  (An appropriate fire door mechanism is installed.)  Please ensure you tap your Bod card against the silver Library reader at the entrance before coming into the Library.
  • Your seat will be allocated to you in the entrance hall by the member of Library staff at the service point (shielded with Perspex screens).  You will be allocated a desk numbered from 1 to 28; you do not select a numbered desk yourself; Library staff allocate you your desk in order to maximise the distance between readers in the Library.
  • Readers will wear a face covering while in the Library.  We encourage and remind all readers to sanitise or wash their hands regularly (gloves will also be available for readers in the entrance hall).
  • A one-way system is in operation within the Library.  Please follow the route through the Library marked out by the directional arrows to reach your seat, and ensure you maintain a two-metre distance from other readers moving through the Library.
  • Wipe down your desk on your arrival there using the anti-bacterial wipes available.
  • You should remain at your seat, unless you need to use the loo on the Lower Floor of the Library.  Browsing at the shelves and borrowing books from the Library are not permitted during the ‘Stay & Study’ periods.  But you may bring in books with you which you have already borrowed from us (via our ‘Browse & Borrow’ and/or ‘Click & Collect’ services), or books you have borrowed from another library, or your own books.
  • You should leave at the end of your scheduled session.
  • Ensure you wipe down your desk when you leave your ‘Stay & Study’ session using the anti-bacterial wipes available, vacate your desk, and leave the Library adhering to the one-way route marked out in the building.

  • Please remember: seats must always be booked in advance via our online booking system for our ‘Stay & Study’ service:

What help is available?

  • If you require assistance, please ask a member of Library staff at the service point in the entrance hall of the Library.
