New College Reads To You

David Raeburn Reads To You

David Raeburn’s distinguished career has taken in many years as a Classics schoolmaster, a Headmaster, and latterly a Classics Tutor at New College, Oxford.  Here he reads for #NewCollegeReadsToYou from his own Penguin Classics translation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

The passages he reads relate to a terrible plague in the Greek island of Aegina—as well as its aftermath, which sees the island miraculously repopulated.

What might Ovid’s mythological story have to say to us today?

New Quad

Multi-million pound plan for a new quad

The new buildings will include 108 student rooms on its Savile Road site, with a new entrance created on Mansfield Road.

This is a genuinely exciting plan, creating a stunning piece of architecture, and will for the first time enable us to house all undergraduates who wish to live in College accommodation.
