Professor Ann Jefferson, Fellow and Tutor in French, promoted to Commandeur dans l'ordre des palmes académiques
Professor Ann Jefferson, Fellow and Tutor in French, has recently been promoted to Commandeur dans l'ordre des palmes académiques by the French Ministry of Education. The award, created by Napoleon in 1808, is the second oldest French order of chivalry after the Légion d'honneur and is given for contributions to French national education and culture.
She has written books on the Nouveau Roman, Stendhal, and Nathalie Sarraute whose work she helped to edited in the Pléiade Œuvres complètes. The French translation of her book Biography and the Question of Literature in France (OUP, 2007) is due to be published in October by the Presses universitaires de France under the title Le Défi biographique: la littérature en question. The translation has been done by Cécile Dudouyt, one time lectrice in the college and currently Post-doctoral Research Associate in the Classics Faculty.
