'The Sacred Choral Music', by the Choir of New College, receive Germany's most respected CD award.

 

The recording of "Benjamin Britten: The Sacred Choral Music" by the Choir of New College Oxford conducted by Edward Higginbottom has received Germany's most respected CD award "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik". For the Jury, Wolfram Goertz describes the CD as ‘flawless’ and the Choir as 'impeccable'.  He finishes: ‘forchoral music fans, and those who are in search of religious choral music, this recording is essential - though for the latter it sets the bar high!’

One Hundred Years of Jealousy Symposium

To celebrate the centenary of the publication of the first volume of Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu, Du cote de chez Swann, this symposium proposes to revisit a major theme of the novel, jealousy.

Major Refurbishment Project

The College is embarking on a major refurbishment of its 14th century kitchen as well as the buttery and beer cellar.  Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a temporary hall and kitchen on the Holywell Quad, work on which started in early March 2013.

Students returning for the start of Hilary Term will dine in the temporary hall. Work on the kitchen, which was last refurbished in the 1960s, will continue until around September 2014.

Miles Hewstone, professor of social psychology and fellow of New College, Oxford, co-authors a feature article looking at a series of high-profile research scandals in social psychology, and concludes that attacks on the whole academic discipline are unjustified. Wolfgang Stroebe and Miles Hewstone say that the majority must not suffer for a tiny minority's misconduct.

New College through to the Semi Finals of University Challenge

New College through to the Semi Finals of University Challenge

 

Four of our New College students have reached the semi-final stages of the student version of University Challenge after being victorious in their quarter-final match. New College won with 165 points, beating King’s College, Cambridge, who scored 125 points. The New College student team are:

Assistant Chaplain

The college is looking to appoint an assistant chaplain to work with the chaplain.  The post is tenable initially until 10 August 2014, and is open to candidates who are priests in the Church of England, or in communion with the Church of England.  The post will involve working with the chaplain  by assisting with services in chapel and in helping to develop programmes to expand the reach of the chapel to students and the wider chapel congregation.  The post is for ten hours per week during university term, with occasional duties out of term, and would suit a priest comb
