Tutor in Politics, Professor of Politics, Tutor for Graduates and Graduate Admissions

Martin Ceadel has been a Tutorial Fellow in Politics since 1979, having previously held lectureships at Sussex and London universities. He has held a considerable number of administrative positions, including those of Senior Tutor of New College, Senior Proctor of Oxford University, and Head of the Department of Politics & International Relations while it was being brought into existence. He had a longstanding interest in the library system, serving for more than a decade as a Curator of the University Libraries and 2004-11 as Fellow Librarian of New College. He is currently Tutor for Graduates & Graduate Admissions.

Teaching

Over his years in Oxford he has taught a wide range of courses at undergraduate and graduate level, including comparative politics. He now mainly teaches British politics and government since 1900, the three International Relations papers, and the French, American, and British components of the Prelims syllabus for the B.A.s in PPE and History & Politics. He is also regularly involved in teaching the M.Phil. in International Relations, and in supervising D.Phil. students in Politics, International Relations, and History.

Research Interests

Professor Ceadel's research has focused mainly on the politics of war prevention with particular reference to Britain.
