Physics and Philosophy
Physics and Philosophy at New College
Both Physics and Philosophy tutors at New College are strongly committed to the course and welcome applications for Physics and Philosophy. This includes applications for for deferred entry.
The Physics tutors are of a theoretical inclination and specialize in topics relevant for the course. Two of the Philosophy tutors take a particular interest in logic and mathematical philosophy. In their first year all students are usually taught in tutorials rather than in intercollegiate classes.
Number of places available at New College
The College normally admits between six and eight undergraduates a year to read Physics or Physics & Philosophy, including about 2 students per year in Physics and Philosophy. Applications are welcomed from both pre- and post- A-level candidates; you would be expected to take Physics and at least one Mathematics paper at A-level (or its equivalent). Taking Further Mathematics is encouraged if possible, though it is not an absolute requirement. Among qualities sought in candidates are intellectual curiosity, strong mathematical and analytical ability, and strong motivation.
The College does not have any requirements additional to those specified by the University and Departments.
