College Computer Facilities

I don’t know my New College password/I have forgotten my password or user name?
Go to the IT Office and bring your University ID card.

The machine is telling me that my user name or password is incorrect?
Check your user name and try your password again - check your spellings and that the CAPS lock isn’t switched on. If this does not work get your password changed at the IT Office.

If you are logging into the computer rooms you can use your SSO credentials OR your New College credentials.  They will both have the same username in the form of (newc1111).  Your passwords may not be the same unless you have reset your New College password - you can do this on any workstation.

The machine is switched off/I can’t login.

Locate and press the on button – (usually) on the front of the PC. Wait a few moments and you will be prompted with the login screen. Avoid using the keyboard during boot up.

Do not try and pull jammed paper as it will become trapped in the rollers. Email it-support@new.ox.ac.uk stating which printer has jammed. Do not dismantle the printers.

Personal Laptops & Computers

What is an Ethernet card?
An Ethernet card enables your PC or laptop to communicate with a network. Most College accommodation/rooms have access points to connect to the network – please note these points are not compatible with Modems.

Do I need to register for an IP Address?
At New College we use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). This means that each time you connect to the network you are automatically assigned an IP address from a pool of addresses. You will need to register with the College Network using your NC username and password. You will be prompted to do so on your first attempt to connect to the Web.
