His research interests include the detection and recognition of visual object categories, visual representations, and large scale machine learning applied to computer vision.

Since 2008 he has been working as research fellow at the Oxford Visual Geometry Group (VGG). He received the PhD  and MSc degrees from the Computer Science Department of the University of California at Los Angeles, in 2008 and 2005, and the BSc degree (with honors) from the Information Engineering Department of the University of Padua, Italy, in 2003. He is the recipient of the “Outstanding Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science” and “Outstanding Master of Science in Computer Science” awards of University of California at Los Angeles.
